Biography

Vocalist, poet, and teaching artist, Eboniramm was born in Manning, SC. A mother and twin daughter, she currently lives in Columbia, SC where she conducts jazz and poetry workshops in schools, libraries and community learning centers. Eboniramm’s written word reads like the robust sounds that emanate from her voice. Through song and spoken word, her quest to bring forth the inherent wisdom buried in us all is furthered as she seeks pathways of expression and reflection.

Eboniramm fell in love with the arts at a very young age when she started performing in her community within open mic forums and on amateur talent show stages. This lead to the October 2002 sold-out debut of her first one woman show, “An Evening with Eboniramm”. In 2003, a partnership was formed with both the SC Poetry Initiative and the Auntie Karen Foundation to conduct spoken word and poetry workshops within local schools. She was the 2004-2005 Poet–in-Residence of the Sumter Opera House in Sumter, SC and a 2005 Poet-in-Residence for the Benjamin E. Mays Homestead in Greenwood, SC.

As a jazz vocalist, Eboniramm has been very busy. Adding to performances at venues such as the Columbia Museum of Art, Gallery 80808, Dianne’s on Devine, the Blue Martini, and Hunter Gatherer’s, she has been a featured artist on the SCETV sound stage at the SC State Fair, the Riverwalk Festival, at the Cultural Council’s Founders Dinner, the SC Poetry Summit and the SC Poetry Initiative Statewide Awards Ceremony, the Richland County Public Library (RCPL) Harlem Renaissance Live Project and the Library’s Celebration of Black Music.

Highlights of her career include currently serving as an RCPL Literary Resident, a 2008-2009 residency with VSA Arts of SC, conducting jazz appreciation workshops with consumers of United Cerebral Palsy of SC and GA in collaboration with Columbia Music Festival Association, as well as the 2004 release of her poetry CD “Passion” and the 2009 release of her jazz CD “The Look of Love.”

Eboniramm is committed to expressing herself in truth and with spirit. Expect to hear her authentic voice within your community. She welcomes the opportunity to help others see the world through the eyes of jazz.
