Levi Pearson was an inspirational leader who was instrumental in the integration of Clarendon County, SC, schools and precursor to Thurdgood Marshall's seminal Brown vs. Board of Education case of 1954. Levi was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004.
"I wanted to know more about this gentle soul: to hear the experiences which shaped his life, those which sacredly embodied the desires of his heart. On Mother's Day 2005, I sat in the kitchen of my grandparents' home, listening as my grandfather, Ferdinand Pearson Sr., shared this story about his father."
