Through poetry and song, this interactive workshop will highlight the contributions of women in jazz and their hand in the progression of this art form.

Jazz Talk begins with an exploration of jazz in its earliest form and the pioneers of this fine art. Following this introduction, we examine various styles of jazz through selected poems, discussing the similarities and differences in their themes, rhythms and styles. In conclusion, we write original lyrics to selected instrumental jazz compositions.

Making Sense of Poetry (MSOP) is based on the belief that we experience the world through our senses. Using imagery and other elements of poetry, students are connected to the power of language, thus providing a platform in which they are equipped to communicate broadly and effectively with their peers as well as their world.
